Surreal Artists You Should Know Pt. IV
Welcome, once again, my fellow nerds! I really hope that my monthly art blogs have been interesting and helpful for you, if you have any suggestions or tips on how I may make this specific blog category better, please don’t hesitate to send them my way. I’m aiming for a casual, non-pretentious line of posts that make exploring art fun and un-intimidating.
Being that this is the month of my birthday (May 8th), I’m going to be profiling artists who work with subject matter of my favorite kind, animals! Anyone who knows me is already very familiar with the fact that I am absolutely fanatic about critters.
First I’d like to introduce everyone to an artist whom I just discovered not an hour or so ago! Jen Lobo’s work has a very soft and dreamy aesthetic that won me over the very instant I saw one of her paintings. While I’m usually more into dark and dreary concepts, I can’t help but love the beautifully whimsical approach she takes in her art. After reading a bit about her through her website, I really admired her appreciation of nature and understanding of the correlations it often has with human emotion. This is definitely an artist I’m going to be keeping my eye on! http://jenlobo.com/

While we are on the subject of softness and whimsy, I’d like to discuss the work of Amy Sol. Miss Sol is a self-taught artist originally from Korea; After looking through her work, it is very apparent that this eastern origin is a significant influence. The delicacy of the subjects, composition, and coloring in her art makes for a very serene and peaceful viewing experience. I almost feel as though I’m slipping into a relaxing meditation whenever I look at her pieces…Ahh… http://www.amysol.com/

Next is Dominique Fung, a Canadian artist and illustrator. Her work also displays an eastern influence, but the textures she creates make for a more “raw” appearance. Though I originally found her through other artists on Twitter, I just meandered over to her blog, and now I’ve found myself addicted. Fung is not only talented, but intelligent, and is not afraid to make statements with her artwork. I am particularly fond of the fact that she uses her talent to speak out on the issues that are facing wildlife and the environment. http://dominiquefung.blogspot.com/ , http://twitter.com/dominiquefung

I hope everyone is inspired by this month’s post!
